On Sunday 26th July 2009 Players, Friends and
Family attended a very special event at the Fleetdown United
Football Club Ground; the Official Opening Ceremony for our All
Weather Training Facility.
The All Weather Training Facility, as well as
providing a state of the art training and
player
surface, will also be Fleetdown United's focal point for remembering
players and club members who have been sadly lost to us.
The first Memorial Plaque erected is dedicated to
Matthew Hobbs, a bright young schoolar and brave defender and goal
keeper for the Fleetdown United Under 11 & 12 teams (this years
Under 14's team.). Matthew was tragically taken from us in January
2008.
To mark the occasion we
were extremely pleased when former Charlton Athletic, Chelsea, Benfica, West Ham & Rotherham
United Left Back, Scott Minto agreed to join us on the day to open
the Memorial Pitch.
The opening was also attended by local Councillor
Jeremy Pike, who secured a £2000 sports grant in Matthews honour,
which was put towards the £100,000 construction costs of the
facility.
Following the opening Scott stayed on to meet
with the many aspiring young players from Fleetdown United Sunday
Club and other many of our Mini Soccer and Junior Soccer teams.
There may have even been a few Senior club players and parents who
wanted to meet Scott and get his autograph.
